Technicians are TSSA-certified and carry the parts most commonly needed for refrigerator repairs on every service vehicle. Most fridges are repaired in a single visit, without waiting days for parts to arrive. Service runs 7 days a week across Ottawa, Kanata, Nepean, Barrhaven, Orleans, and surrounding communities.
Capital Appliance Repair has built its Ottawa fridge repair track record on clear upfront pricing, same-visit repairs, and a limited warranty of up to 1 year on parts and labour behind every job.
"Capital Appliance Repair provides a written quote before any work begins, and if the same issue returns after the repair is complete, you don't pay a cent more."
Ottawa homeowners facing a fridge failure have a straightforward choice: call a technician who shows up prepared, or wait three days for someone with a parts order lead time. Capital Appliance Repair technicians arrive stocked with common refrigerator components, which means no second visit, no food lost to waiting, and no unclear invoice at the end. Our company services all major brands and handles the full range of refrigerator problems, from compressor failures to ice maker clogs to error codes on Samsung and LG models.
Why Ottawa Homeowners Call Capital Appliance Repair First for Fridge Repair
Capital Appliance Repair has been fixing Ottawa fridges for over 15 years. Cooling failures, ice maker faults, water dispenser issues, thermostat drift, and compressor problems all follow known diagnostic paths. Capital technicians arrive stocked for the most common causes and quote before starting. Here is how the service handles each one.
🔧Parts on the Truck, Not on Order
Many appliance repair companies diagnose your fridge on visit one, then leave to order parts and return three days later. Capital Appliance Repair technicians stock common refrigerator parts on every vehicle, so the repair that would take two trips elsewhere often gets done in one. That matters when your food is sitting at room temperature and the clock is running.
📋TSSA-Certified for Refrigerant Work
TSSA certification (Technical Standards and Safety Authority) means Capital Appliance Repair technicians meet the Ontario regulatory standard for appliance and refrigerant work, not a self-declared certification. This matters specifically for refrigerant recharge repairs, which require TSSA credentials under Ontario law. Non-certified technicians cannot legally handle refrigerant, so if your fridge has a refrigerant leak, this credential is not optional.
💬Upfront Pricing Before Any Work Starts
After diagnosing the problem, the technician explains what failed, what the repair requires, and the full cost including parts and labour, before any work begins. You decide whether to proceed. No surprise invoice at the end, no add-ons after the work is done.

🛡Limited Warranty: Up to 1 Year on Parts and Labour
Capital Appliance Repair backs most fridge repairs with a limited warranty of up to 1 year covering both parts and labour. If the same problem returns within the warranty period, the follow-up is handled at no additional cost. Most Ottawa appliance repair companies offer 30 to 90 days on parts only.

Capital Appliance Repair serves Ottawa’s bilingual community with French-speaking technicians available on request. Scheduling, diagnosis, and repair quotes are all handled in French for customers who prefer it.

📱Arrival Time Confirmation Before Every Visit
The technician calls or texts ahead with an estimated arrival time before every service call. You are not left waiting in a vague four-hour window: you know when to expect the technician, and the booking confirmation is sent by email.

Every Type of Refrigerator Problem Capital Appliance Repair Fixes in Ottawa
Capital Appliance Repair handles the full range of refrigerator malfunctions, from straightforward thermostat replacements to compressor failures and refrigerant issues. Below is what each repair category involves and why proper diagnosis matters before any part gets ordered.
❄️Fridge Not Cooling: Compressor and Cooling System Diagnosis
A fridge that runs but won’t cool is one of the most common repair calls in Ottawa. The cause could be a failed compressor, a seized evaporator fan motor, blocked condenser coils, or a faulty start relay. A start relay failure and a compressor failure produce identical symptoms but vastly different costs. Capital Appliance Repair technicians run a full cooling system check to identify the actual component before any part gets ordered or quoted.
🧊Ice Maker Not Working or Producing Too Little Ice
Ice maker failures come from several sources: a clogged or frozen water inlet valve, a frozen fill tube, a failed ice maker module assembly, or insufficient water pressure at the supply line. Capital Appliance Repair technicians identify the specific component before recommending a full assembly replacement, since many ice maker faults are a valve or fill tube problem, far cheaper to resolve than replacing the entire unit.
💧Water Dispenser Stopped Working or Flows Slowly
When the water dispenser stops or barely trickles, the fault is typically a frozen supply line behind the door, a failed dispenser actuator switch, a clogged filter that’s overdue for replacement, or a faulty water inlet valve. Capital Appliance Repair technicians check water pressure at the supply line and test the valve electrically before recommending parts. Dispenser parts for the most common brands are stocked on the service vehicle, so most dispenser repairs resolve on the first visit.
🔊Loud Humming, Clicking, or Rattling Noise from the Fridge
Refrigerator noise has specific sources. A loud buzz or repeated click at startup that doesn’t lead to cooling usually points to a failing start relay. A high-pitched hum that runs constantly suggests a worn evaporator fan motor bearing. A rattle from the back or bottom is often the drain pan vibrating or a condenser fan blade catching debris. Capital Appliance Repair technicians isolate the source before recommending any replacement.
💧Water Leaking Inside or Under the Refrigerator
Water pooling inside the fridge almost always traces to a blocked defrost drain. When ice and debris accumulate in the drain tube at the back of the freezer, meltwater from the defrost cycle has nowhere to go and spills into the fresh food compartment. Leaks under the unit are usually a cracked or displaced drain pan. Capital Appliance Repair technicians flush the drain line and inspect the pan: most defrost drain clogs resolve in a single visit.
🌡️Freezer Not Cold Enough, or Food Freezing in the Fresh Food Section
A freezer running too warm usually points to a failed evaporator fan, a defrost system fault, or a damper stuck open between compartments. A freezer that freezes solid (or a fresh food section turning to ice) often means a damper stuck closed or a control board misreading sensor data. Capital Appliance Repair technicians check the full temperature control path rather than replacing the most obvious component and leaving the actual cause unfixed.
🔄Defrost System Failures and Ice Buildup on the Back Wall
Frost buildup on the back wall of the freezer means a defrost system fault. The three components in the automatic defrost circuit are the defrost heater, the defrost thermostat, and the defrost timer or control board on newer units. When any one fails, frost accumulates rather than being melted. Left unresolved, the evaporator coils ice over and block airflow completely. Capital Appliance Repair technicians test each component individually so the right one gets replaced.
🚪Door Seal and Gasket Replacement
A worn or cracked door gasket lets warm, humid air in constantly, forcing the compressor to run more and wearing the motor prematurely. It also causes condensation and ice buildup near the seal. Capital Appliance Repair technicians test seal integrity with a paper test and replace gaskets that fail. Gasket replacement is one of the most cost-effective fridge repairs, since a failed seal left in place causes secondary damage that costs more to address later.
⚡Error Codes on Samsung, LG, GE, and Other Smart Refrigerators
Modern refrigerators from Samsung, LG, GE, and Bosch display error codes when a sensor or board component reports a fault. Some codes indicate a temperature sensor failure, others point to a communication fault between the main control board and a subsystem. Capital Appliance Repair technicians interpret each code against manufacturer documentation, targeting the specific component rather than defaulting to a control board replacement, the most expensive option and often not the actual fault.
- Fridge not cooling or too warm
- Ice maker not producing ice
- Water dispenser not working
- Freezer warm, fridge section cold
- Fridge too cold, food freezing
- Water leaking inside the fridge
- Puddle forming under the unit
- Loud humming, clicking, or rattling
- Frost and ice buildup on back wall
- Fridge lights not turning on
- Door not sealing or closing properly
- Temperature inconsistency between compartments
- Samsung, LG, or GE error codes
- Fresh food compartment warming
- Gradual cooling loss over days or weeks
- Drain pan overflow
- Condenser coils blocked or dirty
- Thermostat not responding to adjustments

What Happens After You Call Capital Appliance Repair for Ottawa Fridge Repair
Most refrigerator repairs run through the same four steps. Here’s what to expect from the first call through to the repair being complete and tested.
Book Your Appointment
Call (613) 454-1577 or book online. Capital Appliance Repair schedules appointments 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. You get a confirmed time window, not a vague four-hour block with no call ahead.
Diagnosis on Arrival
The technician inspects the refrigerator, identifies the faulty component, and explains the diagnosis in plain terms. No jargon, no guesswork: a clear explanation of what failed, why, and what fixing it requires.
Upfront Quote Before Any Work
You receive the full repair cost, parts and labour included, before the technician picks up a tool. You decide whether to proceed. No obligation and no charge if you choose not to go ahead with the repair.
Repair Completed, Same Visit
Because Capital Appliance Repair technicians stock common parts on the vehicle, most repairs are done the same visit. The fridge is tested before the technician leaves. If the same problem returns, the limited warranty of up to 1 year on parts and labour covers the follow-up at no additional charge.
Is Repairing Your Refrigerator Worth It? How to Make the Call
The benchmark appliance technicians use: if the repair cost is under 50% of what a comparable new unit would cost, and the fridge is less than 10 years old, repair is almost always the better financial decision. Here’s how the numbers compare in Ottawa.
| Factor | Repair (Capital Appliance Repair) | Buy a New Refrigerator |
|---|---|---|
| Typical cost | Most repairs: $150–$450 depending on part and issue | New fridge: $800–$2,500+ depending on size and brand |
| Time to resolution | Same-day repair for most common issues | 2–7 business days for delivery and installation |
| Food at risk | Fridge running again the same day in most cases | Food at risk during the full delivery wait period |
| Warranty coverage | Limited warranty of up to 1 year on parts and labour | Manufacturer warranty on new unit (typically 1 year, parts only) |
| Environmental cost | Keeps a working appliance out of landfill | Disposal of old unit required |
| Best when | Fridge is under 10 years old, repair under $500 | Fridge is 15+ years old with multiple component failures |
Capital Appliance Repair technicians will tell you honestly after the diagnosis if a repair doesn’t make financial sense for your unit. The quote comes after the diagnosis, so you make the decision with full information, not guesswork.
What Ottawa Homeowners Say About Capital Appliance Repair
Fast diagnosis, clear pricing, and technicians who go beyond the minimum: consistent themes across Google, Homestars, Trustpilot, and more.
Capital's technician was available earlier than promised, so he called to see if we were available. He entered our home, asked a few appropriate questions in order to aid in his diagnosis, and immediately got to work. He was quickly able to diagnose the problem and was equally as quick to make the required repair, complete with a full explanation. He kept a clean and neat work area and left no debris upon completion of his repair. While settling the payment for his repair, he offered suggestions on a replacement refrigerator if/when the need arises. He made recommendations on what to look for, coupled with what to avoid. I have spent a good number of years in my career doing residential service work, and I was impressed with this organization and its personnel from beginning to end of my repair. I would definitely recommend Capital Appliance. I only gave a 9 out of 10 rating...well...because nobody gets 10/10.
Late on a Thursday evening, our fridge water door started flapping and the lights flashing. We emptied the fridge and called Capital Appliance Repair the next morning. They fit us in their busy schedule. Yuri arrived at the scheduled appointment time and quickly diagnosed the problem. Sadly, a new board was required. Good news, there was one available in Toronto. The order was put in, and tonight Yuri came back, installed the new board, and our fridge is working again. Perhaps an expensive repair, but cheaper than a new fridge and on a fridge that will most likely last much longer. Yuri was friendly, helpful, and professional. I hope we don't have to call again, but if we do, I won't hesitate and will ask for Yuri.
I left a message after business had closed the night of a power outage and received a call back by 8:15 the next morning. A very friendly repairman was at my place by 1:00 that day. He found two bad parts in the fridge and gave an estimate for repairing everything the same day. In the end, we chose to buy a new fridge rather than repair this one, and he gave us recommendations on which brands were more reliable. He also walked through our kitchen giving us tips on our other appliances and unhooked the water from our fridge so we could have it taken away. The whole experience cost less than $80. We will definitely call them for any future repairs.
I highly recommend Capital Appliance Repair (CAR). Our fridge went down. I called CAR and was promised next-day repair, but if an opening became available that day, they would call me. Well, I was very pleased to get the call a short time later that a serviceman would be by between 3 and 6 that day. In fact, the serviceman showed up very soon after 3. He explained everything up front: the cost, the likely problem, and associated costs with each. Lucky for us, it was the least expensive part that had failed. It only took him about 3/4 of an hour, and he was done and cleaning up. I'll admit it was expensive, but worth it to have our fridge back.
My fridge stopped working, and I had trouble finding a company who would respond quickly. I called Capital Appliance, who said someone would come around 4:00 PM. The repair man actually arrived early and tried to fix the fridge. He said it was an old fridge and the repair might not work, and if it still did not cool within 24 hours, to phone Capital and they would refund the cost of the starting relay they installed. The next morning the fridge was still not cooling, so I phoned Capital, who said they would immediately refund the cost of the part. Sure enough, a couple of days later I had a cheque for $129.00. Great service.
Excellent service from the time I phoned to book an appointment until the repairs were completed. Yuri is outstanding! Within minutes, he diagnosed the problem and ordered the necessary parts. He checked if the other components were functioning properly and explained how to deal with the issue until the new parts could be installed. He provided an accurate timeline for the arrival and installation of the parts, and his repair work itself was remarkably efficient. Yuri's skill is impressive. Throughout the whole process, Yuri was polite, professional, and informative. He left the area clean and disposed of any garbage. I highly recommend Capital Appliance Repair! Yuri is wonderful. He was back to repair the same fridge. The compressor would not start. He refused to give up and was successful in getting the fridge running smoothly again. His genuine concern for our situation sets him apart from other repairmen. I knew, if the fridge could be fixed, Yuri would do it. Thank you!
Iurii from Capital Appliance Repair came to my house to repair my refrigerator, the freezer portion of which was not working. He was extremely pleasant, professional, efficient, and went well beyond what I would’ve expected him to do. He removed the freezer portion of my refrigerator and was able to identify the problem and fix the problem. He cleaned the refrigerator thoroughly, and replaced the freezer lightbulb, which I was hesitant to do because of a fear of shattering the bulb. The drawer was misaligned, and he corrected that. He cleared the frost from all the packaging, and gave me some instructions as to what to do in the future to hopefully not have a repeat of the problem. I would not hesitate to recommend this technician for any future service I might require as it relates to appliances in my household. He also checked my stove and dishwasher and advised me of what he could or couldn’t do in the future if they broke down given their age.
We had a power outage, and when the power came back on, our fridge did not. I did a quick search and chose Capital Appliance because they were open later in the evening. I was worried about our food because now it had been over 10 hours. The man I spoke to on the phone was very understanding and said a repairman could be here between 7-8 that evening. Seven o’clock sharp, the repairman came. His name was Yurry. Very quiet yet very polite. He was patient and answered my 10,000 questions. He said it was the control board. He took a pic and showed me. He phoned for the part, gave me the total cost, and said that he would be back the next day with it at the same time. He was, and the fridge worked perfectly. He was very professional and knowledgeable and pleasant to talk to. Capital Appliance came through for me in an emergency, and I recommend them to anyone. Yurry also gave me some tips for the future. Call them first. Prices are fair and service is great.
We have used Capital Appliance Repair twice now. First was for a stuck washing machine door (broken latch) for which they were able to source the part quite quickly. Now we called for a broken part on our fridge. George came to help and he was responsive, professional, and honest in diagnosing and fixing the issue. He did have to order the part, which was quoted as needing a week. The only thing was a communication issue on timelines (he said they would call to book the repair in a week when the part was received), so we did have to call to follow up when we hadn’t heard anything yet after 10 days. However, they were quick to confirm the part had arrived, and booked the remainder of the repair/service within 24 hours, which was great. We would definitely recommend Capital Appliance Repair. Would give 4.5 stars given the communication (who knows with part sourcing these days), but the rest of the work was excellent.
Yuri arrived within the scheduled appointment window and quickly diagnosed the problems with the ice maker in our 15-20-year-old refrigerator. One of the two required parts was in stock in Ottawa; the other needed to be ordered from Toronto. A few days later, when the last part arrived, Yuri returned to complete the installation. Again, he arrived and completed the work within the 2-hour appointment window. Yuri offered useful advice and clear explanations about how the equipment is intended to work and about why the old units were not functioning as they should. He also suggested improvements that should help avoid recurring problems. Yuri provided professional and detailed service at a reasonable price. I've kept contact information for the next time any of our appliances give us trouble. Capital Appliance will definitely be the place we call!
When our refrigerator started to perform strangely, I asked a neighbour who had had a refrigerator problem some time ago who they had called. They immediately recommended Capital Appliances and specifically Yuri as the technician. I called and an appointment was made for the next day. Yuri was punctual, listened, diagnosed, and then checked the refrigerator in careful detail. He was clearly not someone who wanted to just order a part or replace the refrigerator. He carefully disassembled and checked everything, and found a small piece of plastic film that was causing the problem. He was surprised and I was amazed. As far as I can tell, the refrigerator is now working perfectly. He was efficient, thoughtful, neat, and I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone. I chatted with him during the repair, and I wish him every success.
I found the company and their repairman Muhammed to be efficient, knowledgeable, and dependable. I contacted the company on Friday, August 15th (2025) about my 5.5-year-old Fisher Paykel fridge's ice maker not working. Muhammed arrived the next day, on Saturday, diagnosed the problem: I needed a new ice-making part, which he had to order. He also suggested what I could do myself with the fridge if I wanted to see if I could avoid the $500 parts and labour charge. I decided not to do this, but I appreciated his suggestion. Muhammed ordered the part, called to ask what time would be convenient for me, and on Wednesday the 20th he came and installed the new ice-making part. I would employ this company again to repair my fridge or any other malfunctioning appliance.
Had a problem with my fridge/freezer that I was pretty sure I knew the cause of, but didn't want to risk trying to repair it on my own. The technician sent over (George) was friendly, listened to my description of the problem, and got to work right away to fix it. He fixed the issue no problem and gave me advice on how to prevent it from re-occurring in the future. He didn't try to sell me any extra parts or services I didn't need. He also checked that the fridge was otherwise in good condition and informed me there was no reason it wouldn't last me for many more years. The price was about what I was expecting and certainly worth it to extend the life of my fridge. Overall, very happy with the service and wouldn't hesitate to use them again for other appliance issues.
Many thanks to the folks at Capital Appliance for their utmost service. Our fridge broke down just a few days before Thanksgiving 2023. We were hosting 20 people. George, the Capital Appliance tech, upon arrival to our home quickly and efficiently identified the problem. An electronic board was ordered but we were advised that the installation would take place just after Thanksgiving because of its anticipated mid-day arrival in Ottawa on Friday from TO. Upon arrival of the part, George, despite having a fully booked day with other calls, made a point of picking up the part and coming to our home in east end Ottawa for the install to allow us to have a functional fridge for Thanksgiving. We are very grateful to George and the folks at Capital Appliance.
Very happy with the service I received. Highly recommend. I have an older Frigidaire fridge that had an issue with ice buildup in the freezer. I put in a request for service via the website and received a call almost immediately, and arrangements were made for someone to come the same day. The issue was the sensor/thermostat to signal the defrost cycle was no longer working. The part was ordered. The fridge was repaired when the part came in (within a week). The repairman was professional and worked quickly. The cost of the repair was extremely reasonable. My fridge was repaired in June, and I have had no issues with it since. Thanks for the great service!!
I have used Capital Appliance Repair services on a few different occasions, and they never disappoint. In a recent case, our fridge was more than 15 years old and it was diagnosed with a bad compressor switch. The switch was replaced, but the compressor quit working immediately afterwards. It was too bad, as I ended up having to buy a new fridge, but Capital Appliance Repair agreed to reimburse me for everything after the initial service call fee. Nothing can be perfect, and they did their best and made it right for me as a customer. This proven trust and integrity is the reason I will continue to call Capital Appliance Repair for all my future repair requirements.
This was our first time calling Capital Appliance (after first checking their excellent BBB rating), and it was an extremely smooth repair transaction. The repairman (Pavlo) was professional, courteous, honest, and very thorough in repairing our fridge. We were worried that our food would have to sit in our backup fridge for a while because we called after the long weekend. At first, we were told it would not be until the next day, but then they called back to say they could come the same day. Great news! We actually had 2 problems, and he fixed them both perfectly. We would definitely call this company again and would have no issue recommending them to others.
Our fridge stopped working on the weekend, and I called Capital Appliance Repair and asked for help. The appointment was booked for Monday, and a team of Yuri & Yuri showed up at our place exactly on time. They quickly figured out what the problem was (faulty starter for the compressor), got a replacement part from their truck, installed it, and the fridge was back in business. The two Yurii answered all of my questions, explained how a starter-compressor pair works, did the paperwork, received the payment, and left in peace. Bottom line: great service for a reasonable price. Will be recommending Capital Appliance Repair to my friends!
This is a gem of a company to find. Refrigerator stopped providing water and ice. I was surprised to get an appointment the next day. Yuri came and discovered the valve providing water to the fridge was plugged. After we got the valve replaced, Yuri came back and got everything running well. Yuri is very knowledgeable and professional. Took the fridge apart and repaired other things that needed attention. We were only charged for the first visit, and the cost was very reasonable considering all the work he did both times. Anyone looking for fridge repair, I suggest Capital Appliance Repair and Yuri.
I had the pleasure of having Pavlos service my freezer today, and I couldn’t be more impressed! The door wouldn’t close properly, and he quickly figured out the issue and fixed it with ease. Not only was he highly professional, but he was also incredibly friendly and efficient. It was clear he knew exactly what he was doing, and the repair was completed faster than I expected. On top of that, we had a great conversation during the service, making the experience even better. I truly appreciated his expertise and positive attitude. Highly recommend Pavlos for any appliance repair needs!
We were very pleased with the immediate response we received when we called for an urgent assessment of our malfunctioning fridge. Capital returned our call within 20 minutes and had a technician call on us less than 24 hours later. The technician was efficient and very pleasant, and helpful. He explained what the problem was and immediately replaced the faulty part, so that the problem was solved within an hour and a half of his arrival. We are very satisfied with this service and have no hesitation in recommending Capital to others needing similar assistance.
I had a great experience with Capital Appliance Repair. They fixed my fridge quickly, even during the holidays, which I really appreciated. They were flexible and worked around my schedule, including coming out after hours. Vitalie was my service technician, and he was excellent — friendly, knowledgeable, organized, and professional throughout the entire visit. He took the time to explain what was going on and made sure everything was working properly before leaving. Highly recommend Capital Appliance Repair if you’re looking for reliable and responsive service.
George did a great job. On time (contacted me to come early for second visit, to install new part), friendly, knows his stuff, thorough, gives sensible recommendations, explains clearly, answers questions. He not only replaced the broken fan in my fridge, he cleaned the whole circulating system, including removing the mold that grew while the fridge wasn’t cooling. Looks like he cleaned the whole fridge and freezer like new. And he left my kitchen clean! Reminded me of annual maintenance and advised me to keep this fridge. I will definitely call him in the future.
Called Capital Appliance when our fridge stopped working. We were able to get an appointment the next day. The repair person was efficient and knowledgeable. The parts were ordered and despite expected delays due to Covid, we were able to secure an appointment within a few days for him to come back with the parts. The estimate was right on, and he repaired both problems (fan, which was the main problem, and water main, which had been acting up for years) within a couple of hours. I would definitely call on them again when our next appliance breaks down!
We gave these guys a call when our fridge broke recently, and are extremely grateful we did! They were able to send a technician that very same day who quickly figured out what was wrong with our fridge and ordered the part we needed to repair it. Two days later he was back to install it, and our fridge is back up and running without issue. 10/10 on everything! I would definitely recommend calling these guys when you have an issue with one of your appliances! They’re super friendly and knowledgeable, and most importantly reasonably priced!
Honest Technical Advice Appreciated. The technician arrived during the scheduled time to look at my fridge that stopped cooling. After he diagnosed the problem in short order, he outlined the costs and work needed to resolve it, but recommended buying a new fridge rather than spending money to try to fix it and replace the freon that leaked, as it would likely need to be done again in a few months. Although this is not the outcome I was hoping for, I am happy that he was honest, likely saving me some money that I can put towards a new fridge.
Our technician showed up on time, thoroughly investigated our refrigerator, and found the source of the leak to be the water hose, which he fixed. No other issues with our 9-year-old fridge were found. However, he did point out another possible explanation of the water problem that wasn't a fridge issue. We didn't know there was another issue until he pointed it out. So we were well pleased with the service call. Our technician was prompt, professional, thorough, personable, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Capital Appliance Repair.
My fridge had an issue where it would not cool to the desired temperature, resulting in spoilage of many food items. I emailed Capital Appliance Repair, and they got back to me within 24 hours and scheduled an appointment with a service technician. Sergeii was the technician, and he did an outstanding job. He explained what was causing the issue on his first visit, and by the second visit, he returned with the replacement parts required. Thank you, Sergeii and Capital Appliance Repair. I will be recommending your service to anyone who asks!
We had an issue with our freezer leaking. Our technician, George, was very helpful, polite, and professional. He diagnosed the issue quickly and had it resolved in no time. He explained the whole process and explained how we can keep the fridge and freezer running efficiently for the future. He was even able to help after the water line unexpectedly sprang a leak after the fridge had been pulled out (not an issue with how things were repaired), for which I was grateful. Overall, we’re really happy with the service we received.
Excellent service - the technician (Pavlo) arrived on time and quickly determined the problem with my refrigerator. He took the time to explain the problem to me and discussed the pros and cons of replacing vs. repairing. I felt confident in my decision to proceed with the repair and because he had the necessary part with him, my refrigerator was up and running in no time. I highly recommend Capital Appliance Repair (quick response) and, in particular, Pavlo, who is both very knowledgeable and pleasantly engaging.
Capital Appliance should pride themselves on hiring employees such as Pavlo. My bottom mount freezer door would not shut properly, leaving leaking all over the floor and the constant dinging of the alarm. This lovely man took out all the baskets, broke off chunks of ice, cleaned behind the fridge, and returned everything to pristine and working condition for a very reasonable fee. This company came highly recommended by a group in Manotick. Capital Appliance will be my go-to for appliance repair from now on!
Called them based on the reviews, a good trend of positive ones. Technician showed up on time, and after explaining to him the issues that we were experiencing with our fridge and the quick fix we tried (resetting plug/unplug), which by the way solved the issue at least for now, the technician advised us that the repair part will cost up to $800.00, and he recommended to wait and see if the issue doesn't reoccur. Otherwise, he will come and fix the issue with the new repair part. We appreciate the advice and his feedback.
So today's temperature is a balmy -34!! (Yes, MINUS 34.6 to be exact!) The gentleman came right within timeframe, diagnosed and fixed the problem with our noisy freezer in less than 30 minutes while I was outside freezing, putting out our horses and checking on our chickens :-)!!. Unfortunately, I didn't get his name, but now I won't have to hear everyone in the house complain about the loud noisy freezer anymore. EXCELLENT WORK!! Great troubleshooting!! Great service. Thank you Capital Appliance Repair!!
My elderly neighbours' Whirlpool fridge stopped working only 2, 3 years after they bought it, and they didn't know what to do. I did a quick search online and found Capital Appliance Repair. Pavlo (the technician) came early the next day and went above and beyond to get it working but flagged that a piece had burned out. They ordered it, and he came back to install it a couple of days later. They were quick, professional, kind, and understanding. The best customer service I've had in a while.
We were unable to find anyone who would come and repair our Samsung refrigerator. Then we found Capital Appliance Repair! George repaired our refrigerator and was friendly and knowledgeable. We were so impressed we had him back to replace our induction cooktop. George and Yuri arrived in the 2-hour given time limit (not a full day of waiting), were extremely efficient, and professional. We will definitely be using this company again should we require an appliance repair!
Our fridge died out of the blue (to be fair it's 11 years old) and I called Capital Appliance Repair at 1:30 asking if someone could please come out today. The lovely person I spoke with on the phone said she could squeeze me in. Daniel arrived 2 hours later and was actually able to revive it. Frankly I was amazed. It's also a Sears Kenmore and that's not easy to get repaired these days. Overall very impressed by the service, professionalism and a job well done.
I bought a new fridge last week and needed help installing it. Kobi from Capital Appliance Repair showed up on time and was remarkably courteous and pleasant. He proceeded promptly with the work, showed great attention to details, completed the task flawlessly and took extra time to give me some maintenance tips. I hadn't received such excellent service in years and will certainly use the services of Capital Appliance Repair when the need arises again. Thank you.
Service call was offered in less than 24 hours and visit window was narrow, which is very appreciated. Arrived promptly near the beginning of the window and diagnosed the issue before even taking apart the freezer; technician was correct in his assumption. He was able to rig a fan blade he had on hand from another model to save us money and time it would take to order the part, by which time our full freezer of food would need to be tossed. Food was saved! Amazing experience!
Our 10+-year-old Amana fridge decided to stop working on the weekend. I called Capital Appliance Repair on Sunday and they sent a technician on Monday. Yuri quickly diagnosed the problem, ordered a new part and installed it on Tuesday. He explained everything clearly, thoroughly checked that everything was working okay, and left the work site spotless. Thanks Capital Appliance Repair - and especially Yuri - for a quick response and a professional repair!
We live 40 minutes out of Ottawa and these guys didn't hesitate to drive out to fix our freezer. Vitaly worked fast, diagnosed the problem, was up-front about the costs and timelines and came back in less than a week with the right parts. He then showed me a couple of tricks to avoid causing the same wear and tear that had caused the breakdown. This is the second time I've used their services and I'll definitely do so again if the need arises. Thanks, guys!
Professional service and highly recommended. Had an issue with the fridge, called and they were responsive and sent me Vasilyi and he diagnosed the issue and ordered parts and came on time and came back to fix. After two weeks the fridge had a problem, I called and he came back to check and diagnosed another issue. He had the part, fixed it and charged only for the part. High business ethics and I will always recommend to anyone. Thank you Capital Appliance Repair.
I went with Capital Appliance Repair because of their good ratings, and what a good choice that was! The technician showed up on time and knew what he was doing. It was a defrost thermostat that needed to be replaced, and he explained everything to me. He did not leave until the fridge temperature was satisfactory, knowing it was going in the right direction (getting cold). He was also very tidy! I would definitely recommend Capital Appliance Repair!!
I recommend Capital Appliance Repair. I had a fridge problem and the technician, Segei, was really good and on the ball. The service was friendly and courteous and fast. They gave me a 2 hour window (5-7), and I was very pleased when he showed at my door at 5:10! I must say that he was very persistent in finding the problem and then fixing it. Thank you, Sergei. You can be sure that I will call you again next time I need an appliance repaired.
The freezer part of my fridge was working erratically. Capital Appliance Repair sent a technician on the next working day. Yuri approached the problem thoughtfully and professionally; he was very good at explaining what was wrong and what had to happen, and he showed me the burned-out part. He returned the next day with the replacement part, and all is well. I would definitely call Capital Appliance Repair again if I have another problem.
The professionalism of the technician 'Yuri' was extraordinary. Our fridge cooling system malfunctioned and was not cooling, and we were able to get same-day service on a Friday (May 20, 2022). Yuri diagnosed the problem, which was the result of the compressor not working, requiring the inverter board needing replacement. Yuri returned the following morning, being Saturday, with the part and undertook the work. We were extremely pleased.

Fridge Repair Ottawa: Common Questions Answered
Most refrigerator repairs in Ottawa fall between $150 and $450 depending on the component that failed and the brand of the unit. Simple repairs, like a door gasket replacement or clearing a blocked defrost drain, are at the lower end. Compressor replacements or control board repairs on high-end brands run higher. Capital Appliance Repair provides the full repair cost, including parts and labour, after the technician diagnoses the problem and before any work begins. There are no surprise additions to the invoice once you’ve agreed to proceed. The technician diagnoses first, quotes second, works third.
The standard technician benchmark: if the repair cost is under 50% of what a comparable new unit would cost, and the fridge is less than 10 years old, repair is almost always the better financial decision. A new refrigerator in Canada typically costs $800 to $2,500 or more. Most common repairs come in at $150 to $450. The exceptions are a failed compressor on a unit already 12 to 15 years old, or multiple simultaneous component failures on an older model. Capital Appliance Repair technicians will tell you honestly after the diagnosis if replacement makes more financial sense than repair.
Capital Appliance Repair provides fridge repair service across Ottawa 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. Same-day or next-day appointments are available depending on technician availability and your location in the service area. Ottawa, Kanata, Nepean, Barrhaven, and Orleans are all covered. For urgent repairs where food is at risk, calling (613) 454-1577 directly gives you the fastest access to available appointments. Online booking is also available for non-urgent scheduling.
A refrigerator that runs continuously but won’t reach proper temperature usually has one of five problems: a failed compressor, a seized evaporator fan motor, blocked or dirty condenser coils, a faulty start relay, or a refrigerant leak. The compressor and start relay are worth distinguishing because they produce identical symptoms but carry very different repair costs. Capital Appliance Repair technicians test each component in the cooling circuit before recommending a repair, because replacing the compressor when the start relay is the actual fault is an expensive mistake.
Water pooling inside a refrigerator, usually in the bottom of the fresh food compartment, almost always comes from a blocked defrost drain. Ice and debris accumulate in the drain tube at the back of the freezer compartment. When it freezes over or clogs, meltwater from the automatic defrost cycle has nowhere to go and spills into the fridge interior instead. Capital Appliance Repair technicians flush and clear the drain, inspect the drain pan underneath the unit for cracks, and confirm the defrost cycle is running properly before the visit ends. Defrost drain clogs are typically resolved in a single visit.
Loud humming in a refrigerator usually comes from a failing compressor, a worn evaporator fan motor bearing, or a loose drain pan vibrating against the cabinet. Clicking sounds at startup that don’t result in cooling often indicate a faulty start relay failing to engage the compressor. A soft clicking on a regular cycle, roughly every six to eight hours, may simply be the defrost timer switching. If the fridge is level and nothing is resting on top of it, and the noise persists, the source is internal. Capital Appliance Repair technicians isolate the source before recommending any part replacement.
Yes. Capital Appliance Repair services both Samsung and LG refrigerators in Ottawa, including French door, bottom-freezer, and side-by-side configurations. Samsung and LG units are among the most frequent repair calls the company receives. Common issues on these brands include ice maker failures, defrost system problems, and diagnostic error codes that require the manufacturer’s service documentation to interpret correctly. Capital Appliance Repair technicians work from the manufacturer’s service data when diagnosing error codes on these models, not generalized guesswork.
Capital Appliance Repair backs most fridge repairs with a limited warranty of up to 1 year covering both parts and labour. If your refrigerator develops the same fault that the technician repaired within the warranty period, the follow-up visit is covered at no additional cost. The warranty applies to the specific repair performed, not to separate, unrelated issues that develop independently. Most Ottawa appliance repair companies offer 30 to 90 days on parts only. Capital Appliance Repair’s warranty covers the full repair, parts and labour included.
TSSA stands for Technical Standards and Safety Authority, the Ontario regulatory body that certifies technicians who work on fuel-burning appliances and refrigerant systems. For refrigerator repair, TSSA certification is required by Ontario law for technicians handling refrigerants, since refrigerant recovery and recharge requires approved credentials to protect the technician and meet environmental regulations. Capital Appliance Repair employs TSSA-certified technicians, which means refrigerant-related repairs are handled legally and to the Ontario standard. A technician without TSSA certification cannot legally perform refrigerant work in Ontario.
Yes. Ice forming on the back wall of the freezer indicates a defrost system failure. When the defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or defrost control board fails, frost accumulates instead of being cleared by the automatic defrost cycle. Over time this blocks airflow through the evaporator coils and eventually causes the fridge to stop cooling properly. Capital Appliance Repair technicians test each component in the defrost circuit to identify the specific fault, replace the failed part, and manually defrost the accumulated ice before leaving, so you’re not waiting days for a backlog of frost to clear on its own.
Yes. Capital Appliance Repair provides refrigerator repair service 7 days a week across Ottawa, including Saturdays and Sundays. Appliance failures don’t wait for weekdays, and the company’s scheduling doesn’t either. Weekend appointments are subject to availability, so calling (613) 454-1577 as early as possible gives you the best chance of a same-day slot. Service areas covered on weekends include Ottawa, Kanata, Nepean, Barrhaven, Orleans, and surrounding communities.
Capital Appliance Repair repairs ice makers and water dispensers on all major refrigerator brands sold in Canada, including Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, KitchenAid, Bosch, Frigidaire, Maytag, Electrolux, Kenmore, Amana, and JennAir. Ice maker problems typically trace back to a failed water inlet valve, a frozen water fill tube, or a faulty ice maker module. Water dispenser issues often involve a dispenser actuator switch, a failed inlet valve, or a filter overdue for replacement. Many of these parts are stocked on the service vehicle, so most ice maker and dispenser repairs are completed in a single visit.
Signs of a failing compressor include: the fridge runs constantly but the interior temperature keeps climbing, a loud click at startup followed by a brief pause and no cooling, or the motor housing at the back getting unusually hot to the touch. Compressor replacement is one of the more expensive fridge repairs, which is why diagnosis matters before committing to it. Capital Appliance Repair technicians test the start relay first, because start relay failure and compressor failure produce identical symptoms but the relay costs a fraction of the compressor. Getting the diagnosis right avoids paying for the wrong repair.
