How the Diagnostic Fee Works
The diagnostic fee covers the technician’s visit to your home, the time spent diagnosing the problem, and the written assessment. If you proceed with the repair, the fee is deducted from your total bill. You only pay the difference. Capital Appliance Repair’s diagnostic fee is the lowest among Ottawa appliance repair companies, at less than half what other companies charge for the same visit. Booking online at capitalappliancerepair.ca saves an additional $25 off any service call.

Every Type of Washing Machine Problem Capital Appliance Repair Fixes in Ottawa
Capital Appliance Repair handles the full range of washing machine faults across front-load, top-load, stackable, and high-efficiency models. Here is what each repair category involves and how the diagnosis works before any part gets ordered or replaced.
💧 Washer Not Draining: Standing Water in the Drum
The drain pump, pump filter, and drain hose are the three components to check in sequence. A blocked pump filter is one of the most common causes and costs nothing to clear. A failed drain pump motor requires a part replacement. Our technicians work from simplest cause to most complex: customers aren’t paying pump prices when the filter is the actual problem. Drain pumps are among the most stocked parts on service vehicles.
🌀 Washer Not Spinning or Leaving Clothes Soaking Wet
Clothes soaking wet after a completed cycle means a spin cycle fault. On top-load washers, the lid switch is the most common cause: the machine won’t spin if the safety switch doesn’t detect a closed lid. On front-load washers, the door lock serves the same purpose. A worn drive belt or failed motor coupling can also prevent full spin speed. Our technicians test the lid switch and door lock before moving to motor and belt diagnosis.
🌊 Washer Leaking: Water on the Floor During or After a Cycle
Washer leaks vary by location. Water in front of a front-load washer usually comes from the door gasket. Water at the back points to supply hose connections or the pump housing. Water underneath during the fill cycle often means the inlet valve is failing to shut completely. Our technicians trace the leak to its source before recommending a repair, since door gasket replacement and inlet valve replacement are very different jobs in cost and access.
📳 Washer Shaking Violently or Moving Across the Floor During Spin
A machine shaking hard enough to move across the floor has either a leveling problem, an unbalanced load, or worn suspension components. The easiest checks are leveling (all four feet need firm floor contact) and load balance. If shaking is severe with an even load on a level floor, the suspension rods (top-load) or shock absorbers (front-load) are worn. Our technicians check leveling first and re-level the machine as part of every service call.
🔌 Washer Won't Start or Has No Response
No response at the start button means a fault in the power delivery or safety interlock chain. The most common causes are the lid switch on a top-load, the door lock on a front-load, and the thermal fuse (a one-time safety device that blows when the motor overheats). Our technicians reach control board diagnosis only after confirming the simpler causes are ruled out, since board replacements are expensive and often unnecessary.
⏸️ Washer Stopping Mid-Cycle
A mid-cycle stop usually means the machine is detecting a fault and halting to protect itself. Common causes: a drainage problem preventing the machine from advancing, an intermittently failing door latch, motor overheating from a ventilation blockage, or a sensor fault generating a pause error. Our technicians retrieve stored error codes and test the door latch and drainage path before attributing the stop to an electronic fault, since that’s the expensive diagnosis.
🚪 Front-Load Washer Door Lock and Latch Issues
Front-load washers won’t start or continue running if the door lock actuator doesn’t engage. A failed door lock can present as the machine refusing to start, stopping mid-cycle, or showing a door lock error code. Capital Appliance Repair stocks door lock assemblies for the most common front-load brands. Many are completed in a single visit; parts not on the vehicle are typically sourced within a week.
🦠 Front-Load Washer Mold, Odor, and Gasket Problems
Front-load washers are prone to mold and mildew in the door gasket folds and drain filter, where water pools after every cycle. Our technicians clean the filter, inspect the gasket for deterioration, and walk homeowners through the maintenance routine that prevents mold from returning: leaving the door ajar after loads, wiping the gasket dry, and running a monthly hot cycle with a washer cleaner. A deteriorated gasket is replaced when cleaning no longer resolves the odor.
💦 Washer Not Filling With Water
A machine that fills slowly or not at all usually has a problem at the water inlet valve. A partially failed valve lets only one temperature through: hot washes work while cold and warm cycles fail, or vice versa, tracing directly to one solenoid in a dual-solenoid assembly. Our technicians test each solenoid individually, since replacing only the failed one is less expensive than replacing the entire valve.
⚡ Error Codes on LG, Samsung, Whirlpool, and GE Washers
Modern washers display error codes when a sensor or component reports a fault. LG’s LC1 typically indicates a water leakage detection fault, often triggered by a sensor reading residual moisture rather than an actual leak. Samsung’s DC indicates an out-of-balance load. Whirlpool F codes point to specific subsystem failures. Our technicians interpret codes against manufacturer documentation rather than defaulting to the most expensive component the code could indicate.
🏗️ Stackable Washer and Dryer Repair in Ottawa
Stackable washer/dryer units in condos, laundry closets, and tight utility spaces require two technicians to move safely. Capital Appliance Repair sends two-person teams for stackable repairs as standard, not as a premium. The washer is accessed by safely relocating or supporting the dryer above it, and everything is returned to its original position without floor or cabinet damage.
🔧 Washer Installation in Ottawa
Capital Appliance Repair installs washing machines across Ottawa alongside repair services. Installation covers hot and cold supply line connections, drain hose routing to the standpipe or utility sink, electrical connection, and leveling all four feet. A test cycle is run before the technician leaves to confirm the installation is complete.
- Washer not draining (standing water in drum)
- Not spinning (clothes soaking wet after cycle)

- Overflowing during fill cycle
- Extended cycle times (taking too long)

What Happens After You Contact Capital Appliance Repair for Washer Repair in Ottawa
From first contact to a working washing machine, most Ottawa washer repairs run through the same four steps. Here is what to expect at each one.
Contact: Phone or Online Within 1 Hour

Diagnosis: With an Honest Assessment
The technician inspects the washer, identifies the fault, and gives you a clear explanation of what failed and why. If the repair doesn’t make financial sense for the machine’s age and condition, the technician tells you that before any work starts, not after.
Quote: Diagnostic Fee Applied if You Proceed
You receive the full repair cost before any work begins. If you proceed, the diagnostic fee is deducted from your total. The price quoted is the price on the invoice: no additions after the fact.
Repair: Plus Whatever Else Needs Attention
Capital Appliance Repair technicians complete the repair, then run a test cycle before leaving to confirm the fix is working. They’ll also address anything else they notice during the visit: leveling the machine, cleaning a blocked filter, giving maintenance tips that prevent the next breakdown.
Is Repairing Your Washing Machine Worth It? How Capital Appliance Repair Advises Customers
Capital Appliance Repair technicians give the same repair-or-replace advice they’d give a family member. The benchmark they apply: if the repair costs less than 50% of a comparable new unit and the washer is under 10 years old, repair usually wins. Here’s how the numbers compare in Ottawa.
| Factor | Repair (Capital Appliance Repair) | Buy a New Washing Machine |
|---|---|---|
| Typical cost | Most repairs: $100–$400 depending on fault and brand | New washer: $700–$1,800+ installed |
| Time without laundry | Many repairs completed same visit or within days of part arrival | Delivery and installation: 3–7 business days minimum |
| Diagnostic cost | Lowest diagnostic fee in Ottawa, applied to repair bill if you proceed | No equivalent: you’re committed to the purchase price upfront |
| Honest guidance | Technician advises against repair when it doesn’t make financial sense | Retailer always has an incentive to sell the new unit |
| Best when | Washer is under 10 years old, repair under $400 | Washer is 15+ years old or repair exceeds 50% of replacement cost |
Capital Appliance Repair technicians give every customer the information they need to make that call. When repair is the right answer, they fix it. When it isn’t, they say so before the invoice.
What Ottawa Homeowners Say About Our Dishwasher Repair
From accurate diagnoses to honest recommendations and reliable repairs, our reviews reflect the service Ottawa homeowners expect from Capital Appliance Repair across Google, HomeStars, Trustpilot, and other trusted review platforms.
My 16-year-old automatic washer developed an extreme noise on the spin cycle and failed to properly spin water from a medium load of towels. I had to break the load into two small portions to get the machine to spin at all. This was on a Sunday evening. Using the internet, I checked out local appliance repair companies and came upon Capital Appliance Repair, left a message by phone and on their website (which triggered a $25.00 cost reduction on any work), and called them Monday morning. They were able to schedule a technician for that afternoon. Vassilie (sp?) was able to diagnose the problem in a few minutes and showed me with his cell phone pictures that my washer transmission was failing badly. He rightly said it was probably better not to invest the equivalent price of a new machine in repairs of my existing washer (although I felt it made a nice aesthetic match to the 16-year-old dryer, which still worked well). Based on his expert opinion, I purchased today (Tuesday) a replacement washer of the same brand to be delivered this Friday. I am very happy to have had this repair company come so quickly and give a solid recommendation following its fast diagnostic work, which has allowed me to schedule a new replacement washer the same week.
We contacted a few appliance repair companies offering same-day appliance repair. Capital Appliance Repair was fast to set up a service call to diagnose the problem with our Whirlpool Cabrio washer. When we decided to proceed and the part arrived, a repair appointment was quick to follow. Our technician, Uri, was punctual, professional, and courteous during both visits. Based on this experience, we would highly recommend the company for your appliance repairs.
Came to fix the washing machine that would not run due to an LC1 error. He took the time necessary to diagnose the problem at the root cause and make sure that it was fixed properly. The washing machine was repaired without any expensive parts needed. Just a little bit of extra elbow grease!! He went above and beyond to make sure that was done properly. I would recommend his services to any of my friends and family.
After being let down by other repair companies, this was a refreshing experience. Professional and friendly, and super responsive even on the weekend. Yuri fixed our washing machine drain pump quickly and affordably, cleaned up, and left things looking great. He was diligent in explaining things to us and ran a test cycle before leaving. What more can you ask for... will definitely call them again. Thanks!
Our technician (Sergei) arrived on time and promptly traced the problem leak with our Samsung laundry washer. The special-order replacement hose part arrived a week later. CAR tracked the order and scheduled follow-up service. Sergei completed the repair/installation in a polite and professional manner. Appreciate his assurances we could safely continue using the washer until the repair part arrived.
I would make this a 10 star review, if I could, after our 2nd visit. UPDATE: The fan belt stayed on, but the plastic bit that had broken did not. We had to order a replacement part. Capital Appliance ordered the part and sent out their technician as soon it arrived. I was expecting at least $500 in cost, but they only charged for the part (less than $100 and cheaper than any supply I could find online). AND they didn't charge for the visit, even though it had been almost 2 months since the initial fix. Can't recommend this company enough. First review (Sept 2025): Solid 5 stars for Capital Appliance Repair in Ottawa and Yuri, the technician who came to give the diagnostic look at our washing machine. Like the 4 other companies I reached out to, including the international home hardware store I bought the appliance from 3 years ago, Capital had a fee for sending someone out to see what was wrong. It was the smallest of the fees by more than half - AND they deduct it from the bill if we decide to move ahead with the repair from them once they give their estimate. Yuri was able to tell us what was wrong and repair it immediately, as it did not require new parts. He told us that if the machine broke down again within the next month, we would only be charged for any needed parts, not labour. It's an hour later, and I'm happily washing clothes for the first time in over a week! I will use this local company from now on when our appliances need repairs, although I hope it's not too often. Really great experience.
I was impressed by the turnaround time from calling at 7:45 pm with a leaky washer to having Capital Appliance at my house the next day. The washing machine was inherited with the purchase of a home. It was not clear what sort of maintenance was done, so I called to ask about a leak and general service. The pricing was very reasonable. I was given good advice on how to identify further issues with an aging machine. What we needed were replacement supply hoses, but even so, the tech was thorough, opened up the machine to verify leaks with the drum and pressure hose, and to detect any water inside the washer cabinet. I will supply the hoses to change them, but felt this was reasonable. It's no harder than changing a garden hose. The tech was sure to give advice about monitoring the new hoses after installation. I hadn't thought about this, but it was a good point. The hoses could fail from a manufacturer defect as well. I appreciate the advice. I will call Capital for further appliance help. Overall, great experience.
I would like to commend George from Capital Appliance Repair for his outstanding service on April 9, 2026. George repaired both my washer and dryer and also resolved an issue with my refrigerator. He was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and efficient throughout the entire process. He quickly identified the problems, ordered the necessary parts, and completed the repairs with great care and attention to detail. George’s workmanship and reliability gave me complete confidence in the repairs, and I would not hesitate to request him again for any future appliance service needs. I have already recommended George and Capital Appliance Repair to my family members and would highly recommend them to anyone needing dependable and skilled appliance repair services.
The technician, George, when he came by to assess the problem, was very confident as to what the problem was with the washer that he just went ahead and ordered the parts. At first I was skeptical, but at the end of it all, he was right on the money. The part came in, he installed it, and now the washer is like brand new again! George had a few challenges on his hands in that the washer and dryer are tightly located in a closet inside a drip pan. In order for him to get the part out, he had to manhandle and move the washer out of the drip pan, which he did with ease. He carefully put everything back the way it was, without any damages. I’m extremely satisfied with George and highly recommend his services!
We had the pleasure of dealing with Michael for our washer and dryer repair. He was absolutely fantastic! Highly trained, knowledgeable, and friendly, as well as honest and professional. Upon completion of the job, we ran into a little hiccup with our washer (a new problem unrelated to the first). We called him directly during his personal time off, and he dropped what he was doing to return to our place. Within minutes, he had diagnosed the new issue and even provided a work-around so that the machine was usable while we await a new part. You seldom experience this kind of service in today's world. As a result, we will be recommending Capital to everyone for years to come. Many thanks, Michael!
Thorough in terms of testing various components to make sense of the problem and not charge for parts unnecessarily. Very helpful, very pleased with the work done. Thanks, Eugene! 2025 update: Back a couple years ago, excellent advice keeping my mom's older dryer running with a part replacement—no need to buy a new one (thank you, Viktor!). And today, quick response to a service call and thoroughly assessed and repaired my washing machine, along with providing great tips to keep everything running smoothly—amazing, efficient, and professional service from Vitale! Thank you, Vitale, and thank you again, Capital Appliance Repair.
We discovered that the door to our washer simply didn't open. George arrived 20 minutes early, immediately opened the front of the washer, and tripped the switch to open the washer properly. He then, with a smile, cleaned our filter, which I didn't even know existed. He provided advice on how to prevent mold in the washer, told us what to dump into the washer to clean it, and even suggested a way to reduce our washer's tendency to walk across the floor. He was a great guy from beginning to end. Great service, and I'll certainly get back in touch when other problems arise. Many thanks.
We recently had our washing machine repaired. Our technician, George, came promptly after we called to set up an appointment. He evaluated the problem quickly, then he had to pick up the part and return another day. From start to finish, the repair booking process was very efficient. George was able to get the necessary part quickly, then returned and had our washing machine moved, fixed, and placed back in no time flat. George was very friendly; he even took time to greet our pets who were very interested in what he was doing. Fantastic, friendly & professional service. Thank you!
Our washing machine stopped working on cold/warm wash; only hot wash worked. A technician visited to diagnose the issue and determined that the cold water intake valve was faulty and needed replacement. The new valve needed to be back-ordered. Two weeks later, the part came in and two service technicians returned to install the new valve. An extra technician was required as the washing machine was a stacked washer/dryer combo in a laundry closet in our condo, so heavy lifting was required to access the washer. Work was completed in an hour and the problem was fixed. Impressed with their work and timely repair.
I contacted Capital Appliance Repair after the Samsung-recommended appliance repair business didn't return my calls. Capital Appliance called me within one hour of submitting the online form to set up an appointment for a technician to come in. The technician was on time and explained things clearly. And when it turned out that the estimated labour costs to fix the washer were more than it was worth, the technician recommended buying a new one. The honesty was appreciated. I would definitely call Capital Appliance Repair again and would recommend to others.
We had Capital Appliance Repair fix our washing machine today that had a broken Valve Assembly Inlet. He got held up by a snowstorm, but he arrived in good time nonetheless! The man was super nice, both when he came to diagnose and to repair. He was communicative and quick to repair the washer. He also tested the washer to make sure the problem was gone. He explained everything to us, which was really nice. We were very impressed with the work he did and that he was so nice/polite. Highly recommend Capital Appliance Repair for your appliances!
We called Capital Appliance Repair to replace the gasket in our washing machine and are extremely pleased with the service. George was running ahead of schedule and called to ask if he could arrive early, which was awesome. Once he got here, he replaced the gasket quickly and efficiently. He was very professional and kind, and even took an extra few minutes to teach me how to maintain our washing machine to get the most out of it. Amazing service overall! We will definitely use Capital Appliance Repair in the future.
Our washer broke down unexpectedly on a weekend. We called CAR immediately and were pleased to get an appointment for the very next morning. Lucas arrived right on time and was polite and respectful throughout. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything clearly as he went about troubleshooting our problem. Unfortunately, our washer was beyond repair, but Lucas made some good recommendations regarding a replacement. He also put everything back together and cleaned up afterwards. We definitely recommend CAR.
While it wasn’t the easy repair that I was hoping for, Oleg was very professional and knowledgeable. He took the time to show me exactly what was wrong with my washing machine and what I should do about it. He was prompt, arriving very close to exactly when he said he would. I laughed because I told him that I hoped that I didn’t ever need to see him again, but if I did, I wouldn’t hesitate to call Capital Appliance and ask for him! He said that he wouldn’t take it personally lol. Great service!
My washing machine quit pumping out the water in the middle of a wash. I contacted Capital Appliance Repair. The technician, a very pleasant young man, came to my home on time and diagnosed my problem. He had to order a part, which turned out to be the drain pump. When the technician came back to actually complete the job, again he was on time. The charge, as quoted when the call was originally made, was exactly what I paid when the job was completed. I would recommend Capital Appliance Repair.
Our washing machine broke down, so based on other reviews I’d read, I called Capital. Victor came over within a couple of days and tried one repair that he thought would fix it. Unfortunately it didn’t, so he immediately called his supplier to get the part that he figured would work. He got the part and was over the next morning. Everything is back to working now. Very good service, very little waiting time, and a friendly repairman (Victor). I would certainly recommend Capital.
Water found on floor under nine-year-old LG washing machine. After a search online we called Capital Appliance Repair. They would have come the same day, but we were out. They arrived on time the next day and sorted out the issue, and the part we needed was ordered immediately. It took four business days for the part to arrive and we are now up and running. Very professional and very pleased with the gentleman who worked hard to get us washing again. Thank you.
My daughter purchased a Kenmore washer and dryer set in Burlington, ON. The only issue we had was they had been set to Spanish. We had been trying for months to set them to English. One call to Capital (who did not sell them to us but were willing to help), and we have a washer that is now in English. I offered to pay Oleg for his time and he said just leave a good review. Oleg, you are a good man and an even better technician, thank you!
Very professional. They came in, did an assessment of an aging Kenmore that produced grey streaks: replace it. I talked to the manufacturer who stressed HE detergent first, and tried that... still had grey streaks, so Capital Appliance was correct. They were hired to detach a stacked washer/dryer combo and prepared it for removal. Carefully removing a 120-lb dryer attached to a washer in a tight space was something I left to the professionals.
I called Capital Appliance Repair last week after I noticed water coming from under my washing machine. They sent a technician the same day, and the broken part was replaced this week (they had to order it). This was my third time using this company to fix an appliance (I also had issues with my dishwasher a few years ago), and I will call them again when needed. Overall, I'm very satisfied with their service. Reliable and professional.
Excellent response (on a long weekend). Phoned in the AM; technician arrived mid-afternoon, spent 40 minutes with our 30-year-old washer and got it up and running with a temporary fix, with the permanent solution to follow later this week. Professional, polite, and efficient service. Thank you! On time and for the price estimate. Excellent service.
We just had our upright washing machine serviced by Pavlo. We were very concerned we would need a new washer, which would mean a new dryer as well, but the problem was discovered quickly. Although he had to pull out the washer and take it apart to access the drain, he was both efficient and pleasant in his work. It was a pleasure having him here. If there is ever a need again, we would not hesitate to ask for him.
I called in to get them over for a washer leaking water. The tech thoroughly checked the washer, and found no leak from the hoses. The leak was coming from the filter, where I must have put it back the wrong way. He took time to explain that it has a groove where it needs to be, or the seal will not be complete. Now my washer has been checked and should be good for a while. Excellent work.
Capital Appliance Repair is a first-rate repair company. Ilya, my Capital Appliance Repair technician was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly and helpful, explaining the problem with my washer and showing me step-by-step the resolution of the problem. Capital Repair is the excellent company it is because of the expertise of employees like Ilya. Thanks again, Ilya, for a job well done! Mike Cummings
Kobi was outstanding. He arrived within the promised availability window. He was very knowledgeable about my Samsung washing machine in particular and washing machines in general, and was able to diagnose the problem immediately. He provided expert advice. He was polite and professional throughout the service call. Will definitely use Capital Appliance Repair again and will ask for Kobi specifically.
Exceptional service with very fair pricing. I called the day before and they were able to squeeze me in the next day. The ladies on the phone were very helpful and professional. They sent Viktor to do the repair to our washer/dryer unit. He was able to repair the unit and addressed another concern I had with the appliance. I would definitely recommend and will be calling them again for future repairs.
I had one issue after another in a new home, and calling up Capital was one of the wisest moves I have ever done to alleviate our "sufferings," so to speak. Appointment was set right away, parts ordered and installed within two business days. They were wise to have sent two very capable young men to fix a stacked-on washer model. No scraping or dirtying floors, etc. They were very courteous to boot.
The lady I spoke with on the phone, Natasha, was amazingly patient and polite, a pleasure to speak to. The guys who showed up to repair my washing machine knew what they were doing, didn't waste time, were so nice and funny, and they did an exceptionally thorough job, even taking the time to adjust the leveling of my washer to make sure it spun properly. Will definitely call these guys next time. A++
Capital Appliance again gets a 5. Came out to look at my washers' fabric dispenser. Got it back in place. Gave me a quote on a new one installed. This is at least my 3rd time using this company. They are straightforward about repair versus replace, not overly priced, not pushy. If you have them come out to diagnose a problem and then get them to repair it, the initial fee goes towards the repairs.
I had my Frigidaire stackable washer repaired. Service was prompt and professional. The repairman took the time to explain the problem and the solution for my locked lid. The appliance is nine years old, and I was pleased that a replacement part was sourced and arrived in less than a week. I was afraid that, due to its age, I would have to replace the machine. The repair cost was a fraction of the cost of replacement.
Our washer broke down suddenly, with a load full of laundry and water sitting inside. Capital Appliance Repair was able to get a Technician out to our home within a few hours! The Technician was great, explained everything he found, made suggestions for repairs, and even drained out the water that was sitting in the washer so that it wasn't left sitting there. Very pleased with this service.
Very pleasant technician, came in the allotted time frame (which, from my experience, is definitely not always the case) and explained everything very openly about my washing machine. Said that nothing was wrong with the machine but gave me a few suggestions to not overload it anymore. Just took the service fee for payment and nothing more. Overall, great experience. Would definitely recommend!
Mike, our service technician, was very polite and knowledgeable, and used boots to cover his shoes. He was able to diagnose the problem quickly and unfortunately had to order 2 parts that took a couple of days to come in. Our washing machine now works great, as well as the dryer that Mike repaired about a year ago. One of the best service companies I have ever worked with. Thanks for the great job.
We called Capital Appliance to fix our washing machine over the holidays. Vasilyi was responsive, polite, courteous, efficient and professional - all the while taking care in our home during the pandemic. The work was completed quickly, and even ahead of schedule! We would certainly recommend Capital Appliance, and will call them again for future appliance repairs - Thanks Vasilyi!
I just received fantastic service with Capital Appliance Repair, Ottawa. The service technician, Ilya was very knowledgeable and professional. He diagnosed the problem immediately and fortunately, he had the part with him so he was able to diagnose and repair my washer within half an hour. Ilya was very efficient and friendly. I would definitely recommend this company to others!

Washer Repair Ottawa: Common Questions Answered
Most washing machine repairs in Ottawa fall between $100 and $400 depending on the fault and the brand. Simple repairs like a lid switch replacement or a clogged drain filter clear are at the low end. Motor, control board, or pump replacements on high-end brands run higher. Capital Appliance Repair charges a diagnostic fee for the visit that is the lowest among Ottawa appliance repair companies and is deducted from your repair bill if you proceed. Booking through the website saves an additional $25. The price quoted after the diagnosis is the price on the invoice.
If the repair costs less than 50% of a comparable new unit and the washer is under 10 years old, repair almost always makes more financial sense. A new washing machine in Ottawa costs $700 to $1,800 or more installed. Most common repairs run $100 to $400. Capital Appliance Repair technicians give an honest repair-or-replace recommendation after every diagnosis. When the repair doesn’t make financial sense (for a 16-year-old machine, or when labour exceeds the machine’s value), the technician says so before any work starts. That assessment costs nothing beyond the diagnostic fee.
Standing water in a washing machine drum after a cycle usually comes from one of three sources: a blocked drain pump filter, a kinked or clogged drain hose, or a failed drain pump motor. The filter is the cheapest and most common cause, located at the front bottom of most front-load washers behind a small access panel. It collects lint, coins, and debris and should be cleaned every few months. If the filter is clear and the hose is not kinked, the drain pump motor has likely failed and needs replacement. Capital Appliance Repair technicians work through these in order before recommending a pump replacement, so you’re not paying for a motor when the filter was the problem.
Violent shaking during the spin cycle has three possible causes in order of likelihood. First, the washer is not level: all four feet need to make firm, even contact with the floor. An adjustable wrench and five minutes is all it takes to check this. Second, the load is unbalanced: heavy items like towels and jeans should be distributed evenly around the drum, not clumped on one side. If the washer is level and the load is balanced and it still shakes hard enough to move across the floor, the suspension rods (top-load) or shock absorbers (front-load) that dampen drum movement during spin have worn out and need replacement. Capital Appliance Repair technicians check leveling and load balance first before recommending mechanical repairs.
A front-load washer that smells musty after a clean cycle has mold or mildew growing in the door gasket folds or the drain pump filter, two locations where water pools after every wash. The door gasket, the rubber seal around the opening, traps moisture in its folds unless it’s wiped dry after each load. The drain filter collects debris and standing water at the bottom of the machine. Capital Appliance Repair technicians clean both during a washer service call and advise on the routine that prevents mold from returning: leaving the door ajar after each load, wiping the gasket dry, and running a monthly hot cycle with a washer cleaner tablet. A gasket that has developed tears or black staining that won’t clean out is replaced.
Yes. We send two-technicians for stackable washer/dryer repairs in condos, apartments, and laundry closets as standard practice. Stacked units require the dryer to be safely supported or relocated before the washer below can be accessed, and the combined weight makes two technicians necessary to avoid injury and floor or cabinet damage. Capital Appliance Repair has serviced stacked units in Ottawa condos and has received specific customer recognition for completing these repairs without scraping floors or damaging the surrounding cabinetry. Call (613) 454-1577 to confirm availability for your specific unit configuration.
The LC1 error on LG front-load washers indicates that the leakage sensor in the base of the machine has detected water. This sensor sits in the drip tray at the bottom of the unit and triggers when it gets wet, from an actual internal leak, or from condensation and overflow during a heavy load. The LC1 code does not always mean a plumbing fault: the sensor may be responding to prior moisture and just needs to dry out. Capital Appliance Repair technicians inspect the base tray and the components above it to confirm whether the code reflects an active leak or a residual sensor trigger before any parts are ordered.
Yes. Capital Appliance Repair’s diagnostic fee is deducted from your repair bill if you decide to proceed with the repair after the technician’s assessment. You pay the diagnostic fee, the technician diagnoses the problem and quotes the repair, and if you agree to proceed, the diagnostic fee is applied as a credit against the total. You only pay the difference. If you decide not to proceed after the diagnosis, the diagnostic fee is what you pay for a professional assessment. Our diagnostic fee is also the lowest among Ottawa appliance repair companies, confirmed by customers who compared fees across multiple companies before booking.
Yes. Capital Appliance Repair technicians drain standing water from a stuck washer drum as part of the service visit. Draining the drum is included in the diagnostic process, not charged as a separate service. Call (613) 454-1577: same-day appointments are available for washers stuck mid-cycle with water inside.

Capital Appliance Repair services front-load, top-load, stackable, and high-efficiency washing machines across all major brands. Front-load and top-load washers have different mechanical systems and different common failure points: top-load washers rely on a lid switch for cycle safety interlocks, while front-loaders use a door lock actuator. Front-loaders are also more prone to mold in the door gasket due to their horizontal drum orientation. Our technicians service both configurations and carry parts for common failure points on each type across the major brands sold in Ottawa.
Four washer problems require prompt attention rather than a wait-and-see approach. First, any active water leak: even a slow drip under the washer will damage the subfloor and the cabinets below if left running through multiple loads. Second, a burning smell during operation, which indicates an electrical component or motor overheating. Third, a washer that trips the circuit breaker: an electrical fault that cuts the breaker should not be run again until a technician identifies the cause. Fourth, standing water left in the drum: running the machine again with standing water can damage the pump and motor further. For any of these, call (613) 454-1577 the same day rather than scheduling for later in the week.
Every washing machine is evaluated on its condition, not its age. We’ve successfully repaired units over 30 years old while recommending replacement for some 16-year-old machines when the repair wasn’t financially worthwhile. After the diagnosis, the technician explains the repair costs, expected value, and replacement options so you can make an informed decision.
