Most common dishwasher issues

Your dishwasher undoubtedly makes your life easier by helping you save time on handwashing and drying each and every dish. Unfortunately, like any other household appliance, dishwashers experience faults from time to time. Here are three common issues that dishwasher owners are most likely to encounter at some stage.

Leaks
Any appliance that relies on water can experience a leak at some point. Dishwashers are certainly no exception, and there are a number of faults that could be the reason behind the leak. Check the hoses on the back of the dishwasher for leaks. A simple hose replacement could do the trick. Alternatively, the drain pump or motor could be giving trouble, and the leak is a significant symptom of this problem. Be prepared for some extra water to cover your floor during the repairs. It's a good idea to have towels and perhaps a bucket on hand. Ask the repair technician if you should turn off your water supply to the washer while they work on it.

Dishes not clean
If you open your dishwasher after a wash cycle and you find dishes that are less than spotless, there could be a number of reasons for this. If you make a habit of packing very dirty dishes in your dishwasher without scraping off excess food, then you will notice food building up and clogging the drainage system. In fact, even if you pre-rinse your dishes, you will still notice a build up of grime after regular use. Your dishwasher needs to be cleaned regularly to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. If you fail to pack your dishwasher properly, it can also lead to undesirable results. Faulty parts that result in dishes remaining at least partially unwashed include the pump, sprayer arms, and the heating element.

Failure to turn on
If you cannot get your dishwasher to turn on at all, you should check the power supply in your home first. There is no point in calling a repair technician out if it's a simple matter of a power outage. Use a small appliance like a toaster or hairdryer to test the plug while you're at it. Even if your electricity supply is fine, a faulty plug will obviously result in your dishwasher not turning on. If neither of these problems is the cause, it's time to call a technician for a professional diagnosis. Electronic issues can be the most complex of all. Every wire, connection, fuse, and switch needs to be checked and replaced as needed. The dishwasher then needs to be tested to ensure that it is working properly. Every faulty component needs to be replaced, and the dishwasher needs to be reassembled perfectly in order to ensure that it operates smoothly.
